WRTC Archives: CLAUDIA RIOS

Host profile: CLAUDIA RIOS

CLAUDIA RIOS was born in  Portugal, and immigrated to the United States in the early 1980's. She has been a long-time Connecticut resident.

• Claudia began her romance with radio when she experienced a need for Portuguese Children’s programs for her children. There being none, she started producing a show for children modeled after her own experience with her children.

She says “I would play my children’s records and would read traditional Portuguese stories, newspaper articles, various story-telling, and describe how the Portuguese culture and costumes were celebrated during the holidays.”

• Soon after starting the Children’s program, Claudia began to also produce shows for women and youth.

• After 17 years of spending weekends on-air, she took a hiatus. Last year, again seeing a need by the community, and a personal desire to get back in the production booth, she returned to WRTC with a program called “Revival  Romance and Passion".

• The program has been well received by the community and the topics that she has chosen have been informative and the choices of music have been entertaining.

She adds, “I am grateful  for my audience and for the opportunity at
WRTC.”

Claudia also writes a regular column for the weekly Brazilian newspaper “Brazileirinho”.

She writes about the Portuguese activities in the area and other international topics of interest, mainly about women and their success
stories.

Claudia had just recently been invited to participate in the sports incentive link -mynameisfairplay.com - and writes her own pages on the site under "Spolight".
